Upgrades for Existing Systems

Accessories & Upgrades

Smart glass, automatic seals, marker boards, ADA pass doors, panel recovering, and electric drives — add new functionality to the partition system you already own, without replacing it.

Get More Out of What You Already Own

Most partition systems run for 20+ years if you take care of them. The right accessory upgrades can keep yours feeling new — better acoustics, fresher panels, smarter operation — at a fraction of the cost of full replacement.

RHL handles the assessment, the upgrade order, the install, and the ongoing service. One conversation, one project, one source.

Why Upgrade Instead of Replace

Cost-Effective

Pull more years out of an existing system. Most upgrades land at 10–30% of the cost of a full replacement.

Restore Performance

Replace worn seals, recover panels, swap hardware. The system performs like new without the demolition cycle.

Add New Functionality

Smart glass, marker boards, ADA pass doors, programmable drives — capabilities the original install never had.

One Catalog, Built Around Your Existing System

Whether the system is operable, accordion, glass wall, Woodfold, or a gym divider, the same upgrade categories apply: improve acoustics, refresh the look, add new capability, or modernize the mechanics. Most upgrades are pre-engineered for the major partition platforms, so retrofit time is hours not days.

Not sure which upgrades make sense? RHL runs an on-site assessment first — we look at the existing system, talk through what you wish it did better, and recommend the upgrades that pay back.

Four Categories. Twelve Upgrades.

Acoustic, visual, functional, mechanical — pick the one that solves what's bothering you about the system today.

Automatic Seals

Motorized perimeter gaskets that engage when panels are positioned for full acoustic isolation.

  • Self-engaging seal action
  • Maximum sound isolation
  • Reduces air leakage
  • Improves HVAC efficiency

Seal & Gasket Replacement

Refresh worn acoustic seals and gaskets to restore the original sound rating on an aging partition.

  • Restore original STC performance
  • Improve air-tight closure
  • Common 5–10 year service item
  • Pairs with hardware tune-up

Acoustic Tune-Up Service

Full RHL service visit to inspect and adjust seals, sweeps, hinges, and trolleys back to acoustic spec.

  • Top and bottom seal verification
  • Vertical seal alignment
  • Hinge and trolley tension
  • Recommended every 12–24 months

Tinted Smart Glass

Electronically switchable glass that transitions from clear to tinted on demand — instant privacy without blinds or shades.

  • Digital privacy control
  • Light-transmission management
  • Modern, sophisticated look
  • Wall switch or remote control

Frosted Glass Inserts

Translucent glass panels that diffuse light while blocking sightlines — the always-on alternative to switchable smart glass.

  • Privacy without full opacity
  • Soft natural light diffusion
  • Professional appearance
  • Easy retrofit into existing panels

Marker Board & Cork Surfaces

Convert a panel face into a writable whiteboard or pin-up cork tack surface. Brainstorm walls, classrooms, conference rooms.

  • Writable dry-erase finish
  • Or pin-up cork surface
  • Single-panel or full-wall conversion
  • No structural change required

ADA Pass-Through Doors

Add an ADA-compliant hinged door panel into an existing partition for accessible everyday access without breaking the seal.

  • Meets ADA hardware and width
  • Functional everyday entry
  • Acoustic seal preserved
  • Custom-sized to your opening

Storage Pocket Doors

Add or upgrade the closure that protects panels stored in the wall pocket. Cleaner look, better security, less wear on stored panels.

  • Multiple pocket-door styles
  • Quick deploy / retract
  • Integrated panel design
  • Locking options available

Sloped Floor Configurations

Custom panel and seal configurations for openings on sloped or uneven floors — common in older buildings and retrofits.

  • Accommodates non-level floors
  • Custom height per panel
  • Maintains acoustic seal
  • Engineered to existing track

Programmable Electric Drives

Convert a manual operable partition to motorized operation with programmable controls and safety stops.

  • Motorized panel movement
  • Programmable sequencing
  • Wall-switch or remote control
  • Safety sensors included

Hardware Upgrades

Modern handles, latches, hinges, trolleys, and track components — same wall, smoother operation, fresher look.

  • Upgraded handles and latches
  • Improved trolley smoothness
  • Updated track components
  • Modernized aesthetics

Panel Recovering

Strip and re-cover existing panels with new vinyl, fabric, or laminate. The wall looks brand new without replacing the structure.

  • New color and texture options
  • Vinyl, fabric, or laminate
  • Refreshed appearance
  • 10–30% of full replacement cost

Common Scenarios We See

If any of these sound like your space, an assessment is the right first call.

Aging School Operable

Seals worn, fabric faded, hardware loose. Recover + tune-up + new seals brings the cafeteria divider back to spec.

Hotel Ballroom Repaint

Property renovation but the partition still works. Recover the panel faces in the new color — no full replacement.

Office Adding Privacy

Glass-wall conference rooms with no privacy — smart glass or frosted inserts solve it without re-walling.

Manual to Motorized

Staff struggling to deploy a 60-foot manual operable. Programmable electric drive turns it into a button press.

Acoustic Complaints

Sound bleeding through. Auto seal upgrade plus tune-up usually closes the gap.

ADA Compliance Update

Older partition without an accessible pass door. Add an ADA-compliant pass-through panel into the existing run.

Common Questions About Upgrades

Can you upgrade a system you didn't originally install?
Yes — the majority of our upgrade and recover work is on systems other vendors installed. We service Kwik-Wall, Hufcor, Modernfold, Woodfold, and other major operable and accordion platforms regardless of who put them in originally.
What's the difference between a tune-up and a recover?
A tune-up is service work — cleaning, lubrication, hinge tension, seal alignment, hardware torque. A recover replaces the panel faces with new fabric, vinyl, or laminate. Most aging systems benefit from both at the same visit.
When is replacement actually the right call?
If the steel structure of the panels is corroded, the track is bent or warped beyond repair, or the system is so old that parts aren't manufactured anymore. We'll tell you straight on the assessment if a replacement is the better long-term move.
How long does an upgrade typically take?
Seal replacement and tune-ups are typically a one-day visit. Panel recovering is 1–3 days depending on panel count. Smart glass, electric drive conversions, and ADA pass-door additions usually fit into a single visit but parts have lead time. We'll give you a real schedule with the quote.
Do upgrades void the original warranty?
Manufacturer-approved upgrades and OEM parts don't void warranty. Anything custom or non-OEM — we'll flag it in the quote so you can make an informed call. Most upgrades we sell are factory-supported.
How do I get an assessment?
Call (815) 451-6082 or email service@rhlusa.com with the partition manufacturer (if you know it), the location, and what you'd like the system to do better. We'll schedule an on-site assessment and walk you through the recommended upgrades.
